When a chimney sweep comes to your Jacksonville, FL, NE Florida, or SE Georgia home you can expect him to come in and ask to see your fireplace.  First the chimney sweep will clear away a work place if you have any decor in front of your fireplace for your chimney sweep.  Then he'll either open your fireplace doors or set aside your fireplace screen.  Next the chimney sweep will stick his head in your firebox with a flash light and look up your chimney flue.  Don't be alarmed, he's just making sure your chimney flue is in good shape.  The chimney sweep is also assessing if you have enough soot build up to need a chimney cleaning.  We don't perform a chimney sweep if your chimney doesn't need one.  The chimney sweep will make sure your chimney damper opens and closes properly.  The chimney sweep will also go outside and check the top of your chimney to make sure all the necessary chimney parts; chimney cap, chimney chase pan, chimney crown are all in good shape and can handle the Jacksonville, Northeast Florida and Georgia weather. 

After the chimney sweep has inspected your chimney and fireplace the chimney sweep will 
begin your chimney cleaning by putting a drop cloth in front of your fireplace.  The drop cloth keeps your home clean during the chimney sweep.  The chimney sweep will use chimney flue brushes and chimney rods to sweep the sooty build up out of your chimney flue.  If your chimney requires it he will use a large vacuum to keep the air clean while he is sweeping.  When he is done the chimney sweep will scoop and sweep all the soot and ashes out of your fireplace, put them in a bag and take them out of your house.  Then the chimney sweep will take out all of his chimney cleaning equipment and put your fireplace back the way he found it, all without making a mess.  A chimney sweep has not done you any favors if he takes the soot out of your chimney and puts it in your house!
